Money Returned to an Honest Young Man
During our last yard sale money was found by John Hedrick. Instead of putting the money in his pocket and claiming it, he turned it in to us. We kept the money in case anyone contacted us about having lost it at our sale. Since there has not been any inquiries about the money, the yard sale committee unanimously decided that the young man should be given the money that he found. We all felt that his family could have used the money then and now it could be used for a better Christmas.

FALL YARD SALE NEWS
The annual fall yard sale was a success again this year. We have been able to deposit $900.00 into our scholarship fund. This year some new people got involved for the worthy cause. Johnny Hickson and Gary McComb helped with the transport of items from storage to the yard sale site. Larry Gatewood showed both days and was immediately put to work. Monetary donations for start up expenses were made by Teresa Hurst Edwards, Joe Cole, Debbie Mayberry Rhew, and Melinda Hampton Bauries. Items were donated by several people in Piggott. The Piggott Diner donated food for the hot dog sales and Ariel Bouquet donated pumkin balloons to attract attention to the sale. A surprise visit from Glenna and Ronnie Stephen was the highlight of Saturday afternoon! We stopped long enough to have a picture made with her. We had several items for the bake sale and were able to sell a great deal of them. Unsold items were donated to the Murphy Nursing Home. A great deal of our left over items were boxed to be sent to a charity in Kennett for needy families. We will be needing new old things to be sold at our next yard sale. We have plenty of storage in Piggott to accommodate items that are donated. Please consider letting us have the things that you don't want any more.

Profit from Mug Sales
August 7, 2008
We are pleased to announce that $750.00 from mug sales is being deposited into the Scholarship Fund. There are approximately 40 mugs left from the first shipment. There has been a $125.00 savings on the second order that was shipped. We will be starting all over with the mug sales.
Since these sales are limited to those who attended the old Piggott High School, we felt it unnecessary to ask each class member to sell a certain number of mugs. We did expect, however, that each class member would purchase a mug. As of this date, no orders have been received by mail. There is a chance that the mugs will be gone before the 2010 reunion. We will be selling them at the yard sales and at class reunions between now and then. There are no plans at this time to make an order for a 3rd shipment, so when they are gone, there will be no more.

A Memorial to Marcia Watson Rogers
It has been suggested that we do something in Memory of Marcia Watson Rogers who died from leukemia before our 25th class reunion. Since we did not have a scholarship fund set up at that time, we have not done anything as a class to honor her memory. Some have expressed the desire of donating a bench to Heritage Park in her name. We would like your input in the comments of this posting.
We have had suggestions of possibly purchasing a book for the Piggott Library in Marcia's memory or getting a brick in her name for the historic walk on the courthouse side walk. Both will be checked into, but we need some feed back as to how class members feel about both. As no e-mails will be sent, this is the only communication you will be getting.

Jimmy's Memorial Service
On Saturday, June 21, twenty-three class members from the class of 70 gathered with other friends and relatives to honor the memory of Jimmy Hanna. Joe did a wonderful job conducting the services. Rick read the obit and spoke about his and Jimmy's days as college room mates and the evening that Jimmy spent with him before going to boot camp. Veda read a wonderful poem entitled "The Flower Bill" written by Debbie Mayberry Rhew who was unable to attend. Francine read "Heaven" a poem provided by Bob Gallegly, also who was unable to attend. Marty gave a summary of her feelings the past week while putting together a memory board of high school pictures of Jimmy and the reunions that he had attended. Five former football team members and 3 other classmates served as pall bearers. The class of 70 coordinated the food for the meal served after the services.
We will hold a special place in our hearts for Jimmy.
The class presented Merita, Jimmy's widow, with a Memory Book compiled by Linda Brown Wells with several classmates' memories of Jimmy. Merita will reside in Piggott at 614 South Garfield. Let's all remember her in our prayers. Her world has changed since she has lost her soul mate and nothing will ever be the same for her without Jimmy.
If anyone would like to contribute to the Memory Book, please send your memories of Jimmy to piggottclassof70@yahoo.com and we will see that Merita gets it.
Merita's comments to the class:
I don't know of a quicker way to let everyone know how much Saturday meant to me. I know that Jim was looking on, smiling and laughing that he got everyone together one last time. The words were all very comforting and I can't wait to get to the memory book to read everyone's memories. I left it all at my parents so that we wouldn't be packing it to go back to Ark. I hope to be moved by the end of August so that Mom and Dad can get back to their lives. I think u did a wonderful service remembering Jimmy and I will never forget it. I want to thank each and everyone of you for all that was done, the words, the set-up and everything that you did. I hope that the scholarship fund received some good donations. Please remember when I get moved, my doors will always be open to any and all of Jimmy's teammates and classmates. He was proud to be a part of the Class of 1970.
Thank you all so very much.

In Loving Memory to Jimmy
I had it all planned in my head
And knew exactly what I would do.
I bought a flower to plant in my garden,
To watch it grow and bloom.
I wanted it to remind me of Jimmy
I wanted it to remind me of Jimmy
Although I won't forget him soon.
I shopped 'til I had the right flower
A Crepe Myrtle that would last
A Crepe Myrtle that would last
It would not die by the hour
And hopefully would grow real fast.
And hopefully would grow real fast.
The pot was big and wide
The plant dwarfed by size.
But putting that all aside
But putting that all aside
I felt it was my joy and a prize.
I planted it with loving care
Oh, the rich dirt that I used,
Memories of Jimmy we'll share
And they will not be abused.
Now, from year to year,
I will watch my flower grow
And as I shed a tear,
I hope that Jimmy will know
I do not need the flower
I'll honor him in my heart,
I will watch my flower grow
And as I shed a tear,
I hope that Jimmy will know
I do not need the flower
I'll honor him in my heart,
But it's growing by the hour
And remembering him is my part.
Marty Renard
And remembering him is my part.

HEAVEN
God saw that he was getting tired
and a cure was not to be, so
He put his arms around him and whispered
“Come home with me”.
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
Golden hearts stopped beating
Determined spirits were at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Memories from a classmate
Jimmy, I Remember
Jimmy, I remember, like it was the day before,
Our fort on the creek, to us it was on a shore.
You lived on Circle Drive, While I lived on West Clay,
We were joined by Sugar Creek, and thats where we would play.
Jimmy, I remember, the days on the hill,
Elementary school, how I remember it still.
Mike Hawkins, my best friend, Steve Scholes’s Accordian, how he could play,
The times were so easy, nothing stood in our way.
The Easter Parade in Mrs. Pobst’s Class, Sandy in her hat,
It’s the good times we remember, our first time at bat.
Jr. High, Mrs. Lynch, we all paid our dues,
And who could forget, Remember Mr. Hughes.
The coaches, the teachers, Mr. Leslie Steele,
Jim Hillyer’s strike on the cafeteria, Oh what a deal!
Basketball, Football, the motorcycles we had,
For every day we live, we all should be glad.
Jimmy, I remember, the ringing of the class bells,
English class, my favorite, listening to Steve Wells.
Graduation soon came, we all went our ways,
But our memories are forever, we will have them all of our days.
Remember the class Reunions, together again,
Sharing the stories, of how everyone has been.
Jimmy, I remember, a friendship so true,
Jimmy Hanna, I remember, and will always remember you!

Class Gathering on May 31, 2008
Hi Classmates:
Our annual scholarships were presented this year at graduation to 5 graduating seniors: Ethan Midkiff, Sarah Myers, Sierra Burris, Lauren Henderson (pictured on bridge) and Mia Baker who was unable to attend the gathering. Each received $300. Thanks goes out to all classmates who donated money and to all classmates who helped with the yard sales to provide these scholarships. We honored the graduates with a cook out at Heritage Park on May 31. The class members who attended were Francine, Betty, Freddie, Linda O., Patsy, Veda, Mike Linda W. and Marty. It was a great evening and hope that other class members can come next year.
As some of you know, another fund raiser is being planned. We have placed an order for Commemorative Mugs of the Old Piggott High School. When they arrive we will be notifying you so you can purchase your mug. We already have 20 sold to class members who have responded to the e-mail that was sent out. We think that there will be several people who will want to buy one when the word gets out. We will also have them for sale at the yard sale this fall. We have the possibility of making about $1,ooo from this fund raiser with most of that going into our scholarship fund.
